I wanted to make a special cake for a friend and she loves her two cats. I also wanted to try my hand at painting on a cake. So I painted an adorable kitten on this red velvet cake, covered in white buttercream and white fondant. I did a matching red board to pull out the depth of the kitten. I wanted to create a fun cake that would be great for a man. I created a cake based on a popular trend, the chalkboard cake, but with a geeky twist, this one is covered with physics and math equations and a couple quotes, one by Albert Einstein. I did do a popular chalkboard thing and put his name on a banner. Everyone at the party loved the cake. It was a red velvet marbled with chocolate cake with white buttercream. The Calgary Sugar Craft Guild held their 3rd annual cake competition the first week of November. These are the two pieces that I submitted into the competition. The top picture is the piece I enter into the Professional Sugar Sculpture category, I call it 'The Hound', I placed third with it in the category. Happy Birthday Bryan! This year Bryan got two cakes because I was feeling ambitious and I baked too many cakes!! This one went to work with Bryan so all the people at his office could enjoy some cake! For this cake I wanted to keep it simple, almost like a cake you would get at a grocery store with chocolate oozing down the side and a simple bottom border and the name written in buttercream. This cake though is covered in fondant with all the details in black fondant with b
